On SITC  (Winthrop, MA 1992)

This piece was originally written for my friend Laurel Lohrey's wedding.  It was used as the processional of the mothers, though I confess it isn't much of a processional.  I don't remember if it was originally intended to be used that way or not, but "processional" certainly doesn't seem to inform the sound.  I played the premier at the wedding.  'SITC' means 'Send In the Clowns', a favorite piece of Laurel's mother.   She wanted me to do something with it, though without being intrusive or simply arranging the song.  It was hard for me to begin [since I actually loathe Send In The Clowns] but if you examine the score and listen carefully, most of the notes of the song are sounded completely [though dramatically reharmonized and rhythmically altered] and the usual setting of the piece has influenced the sound of the fantasy.  I am still rather fond of the piece even at the distance of seven years so it is included here.
